GINNY POWERS   Custom Jewelry Designer

After retiring from teaching I needed to find something that would satisfy my desire to create with my hands. Sculpting natural gemstones with gold and silver wire answered that need.

I work mostly with Earth’s gifts. There are so many different minerals--transparent and opaque-- that are cut and polished into beautiful natural gemstones, so many of my creations are ‘real’.  I also include what Man makes and simulates. Crystals and gemstones grown in a lab are absolutely beautiful and rival the beauty of some natural stones. I mark each of my pieces carefully and price them accordingly.

To sculpt my creations I use 14/20 Gold-filled wire, 99.9 Fine Silver and sometimes 98.5 silver Argentium wire. All will keep their luster when kept clean. A soft cloth will do the job.

EACH PIECE IS A ONE-OF-A-KIND CREATION TO BE ENJOYED FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE

WIRE INFO

14K Gold-filled Wire is made by firing 20% of 14K gold onto a base metal, usually brass. The firing process adhears the gold permanently onto the base wire. This wire is actually stronger than 14K gold and shines at much less the cost of 14K gold.

Fine Silver is almost 100% silver but cannot be called 100% because all wire contains impurities. It’s the best silver wire without going into platinum.

Argentium Silver (98.5 silver) is better than Sterling Silver (92.5 silver) in that it keeps its shine longer.

ALL WIRE MUST BE CLEANED AFTER WEAR NO MATTER WHAT THE GRADE.

GINNY POWERS, WRITER

Writing fiction has taken me on wild journeys through plots and scenes where I live vicariously through my characters. Overall, I’ve written 8 books, 3 of which are published. I’m working on a fourth book that I hope to publish by summer 2019. It’s called The Sacred Bundle.   All of my books are set in the outdoors with a bit of Indian lore within.

Having a Masters in Reading and teaching Reading in the Middle School I decided to self-publish these books—proofing the pages for any errors—thinking my prior experience would be perfectly adequate.

Well… no one is perfect. (But I was close;-)

Middle Grade Books    8-15 year old readers

The Legend of Black Lake  by Ginny Powers     This is the first book I wrote. We went on fishing trips as a family to Canada and Minnesota. Rented a cabin by a lake, fished, swam, and consumed our daily catch. Fishing in a boat in a lake, catching Walleye, Northern Pike, Bass, and Bluegills was the epitome of life beyond the ordinary. The blurb on the back of the book gives you a peak into the story.

The Mystery of Haints Cave: An Appalachian Tale  by Ginny Powers     Myths and superstitions are rampant in the Appalachian Mountains. After reading the Foxfire Book Series (12 books) and many trips into the mountains, I knew I had to write a story that contained the myths, superstitions, and, of course, the mystic foxfire. Read the blurb at the back for the story.

Romantic Suspense             Young Adult to Adult

Leave No Trace by Ginny Powers       We’re out on the water again, in the wilderness of Minnesota on this one.  Our heroine’s life is in danger and our hero, FBI undercover, has to save her. She is of Indian heritage so there is a slightly mystical tilt to the story. Romance but no specific scenes. The blurb tells all.
